Stallion: Male horse able to produce offspring Gelding: Castrated male horses Colt: Young male horse
Due to testosterone, stallions typically have a thicker, crest shaped neck in comparison to mares or geldings (castrated male horses). Stallions also usually have a more muscular physique and aggressive temperament. Stallions tend to be desired and often used in competition events such as races, dressage, show jumping and tent pegging. Stallions are very popular for pleasure, work and competition in Asia and the Middle East for all levels of riding, and in contrast; European stallions are used primarily by experienced riders. In the United States, stallions have a stigma attached to them as being more trouble than they are worth and the majorities are gelded shortly after birth unless they are going to be used for breeding.
